Man Shot By Police After Allegedly Hitting Officer With Cane
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was shot and wounded by police in Brooklyn Saturday morning, after he allegedly struck an officer with a cane.
Around 10:35 a.m. Saturday, two officers assigned to the NYPD Transit Bureau were patrolling the Myrtle Avenue-Broadway stop on the J Train line on the cusp of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Bushwick, Brooklyn, when they heard loud noises coming from street level below, police told CBS 2.

They found a man bashing the hood of a squad car with a wooden cane, police said.
The officers ordered the man to stop and once, and he ran off, police said. The officers followed the man, and a female officer reached him in front of 874 Broadway in Brooklyn, police said.
The man hit the female officer in the face with the cane, police said. The cane broke into two pieces, and the officer suffered swelling and laceration, police said.
The man was about to hit the female officer a second time when her partner fired his weapon and struck the man in the upper torso, police said.
The man was taken to Kings County Hospital Center, where his condition was reported as stable.
The officers were taken to Wyckoff Medical Center, police said.
