Farmingdale Man Arrested After Being Shot By Police
WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (1010 WINS/AP) -- A Long Island man shot by police for intervening as officers attempted to calm down his agitated girlfriend has been arrested.
Police say officers went to the Dunkin' Donuts on East Neck Road in West Babylong Wednesday around 4 p.m. after a call of a suicidal woman. When they arrived they tried to calm her down and take her into custody. As officers struggled with her, police say her boyfriend charged the officers.
One of the officers fired two shots, hitting Michael Moran, 27, of Farmingdale, in the chest.
He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Moran was arrested Thursday on charges of obstructing government administration.
He will be arraigned at a later date. The name of his attorney was not immediately on record.
His girlfriend, 30, was taken to the hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
