Man Killed In Shooting After Yonkers Vigil
YONKERS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- One man was killed and another wounded in Yonkers Friday night, when they were shot just after attending a vigil for a man killed in a motorcycle accident.
Police responded around 10:15 p.m. Friday to Highland Avenue and Jackson Street in Yonkers, after a call of shots fired. They found a Yonkers man in a parked, locked vehicle, who was semi-conscious and having a hard time breathing.
The 38-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at 11:09 p.m. at Jacobi Medical Center, Yonkers police said.
A 28-year-old Florida man was also found at the scene. He had a small laceration to his hand that was believed to have been caused by a bullet, police said.
The second man was treated and released from an area hospital, police said.
An investigation revealed that the victims had just attended a candlelight vigil for a man who recently died in a motorcycle accident in Queens, police said. Police did not provide further details about the accident.
Several rounds were fired from unknown direction, police said. It was not known if the victims were targeted.
