Wild Crash Caught On Camera In Lodi, New Jersey; 1 Seriously Injured
LODI, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A wild crash was caught on camera in New Jersey.
As CBS2's Steve Langford reported, an out-of-control car plowed through a backyard fence in Lodi, sending the family that lives there scrambling as the car shattered their backyard bliss.
The crash happened right next to a gas station.
"I heard the car accelerate as if he put the pedal to the floor. Then I heard it hit the fence," said gas station attendant Dave Cuhna.
The vehicle hit 42-year-old Greg Ceballos, seriously injuring him. The speeding car just missed hitting his nephew and other relatives.
Cuhna said it was chaos.
"Some of them were crying and some of the kids were screaming," he said.
As paramedics rushed Ceballos to the hospital, police administered a breathalyzer test on the driver, then handcuffed him and took him into custody, according to witnesses.
Ceballos told Langford over the phone that he's still in the hospital. He said he's grateful to be alive and that the driver of the car apologized to him at the scene.
The vehicle not only smashed through the white fence, it didn't stop until the next fence.
The driver had just come from the gas station next door, where he had bought a pack of cigarettes, Langford reported.
"I was even shaken up. I feel terrible for that family," Cuhna said.
Ceballos is facing an uncertain outlook with back, hip and leg injuries, but said it's a miracle that his two young children were in the house at the time of the crash.
