Man Gets 27 Years In Prison After Admitting To Deadly Queens Shooting
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Queens man has been sentenced to a total of 27 years in prison for the deadly shooting of teenager last year.
Sean Barnhill, 20, was sentenced to 25 years Tuesday after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the shooting that killed Darryl Adams, 18, in March of last year. He was also given an extra two years for assaulting a correctional officer while in custody, prosecutors said.
Barnhill and an accomplice used semi-automatic pistols to shoot and kill Adams near the Jamaica Houses public housing development in Queens, according to published reports.
The execution-style shooting was caught on surveillance video. The suspects were seen chasing Adams through the public housing development, and shooting and killing him when he collapsed, according to published reports.
Co-defendant Alexander Burgess was sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter in December.
Defense attorney Jeffrey Schwartz said Barnhill's sentence was reasonable under the circumstances.
