Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Two Cars In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A pedestrian was killed after being struck by two cars Sunday morning, police said.

The accident happened around 1 a.m., as a 26-year-old man was trying to cross Pelham Parkway at White Plains Road in the Allerton section of the Bronx, CBS 2's Don Champion reported.

Investigators say the man was struck by a cab. The cab driver remained at the scene and called 911. But moments later, while the victim was still laying in the street waiting for an ambulance to arrive, another car, believed to be a livery cab, also hit him. That driver did not stop.

It's not clear whether the hit-and-run driver knew that he or she hit somebody. Investigators told CBS 2 the car is thought to be a dark sedan and may have sustained damage.

The victim was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he later died.

"He was bleeding from his nose and his mouth and his head," a witness who saw the victim in the street told Champion.

Police are withholding the victim's name until his family has been notified.
