Man Crashes Into Police Van, Shoots Himself Outside Stationhouse
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A man crashed his car into an empty police van outside a Brooklyn stationhouse this week, and then shot himself.
Police said the 33-year-old man – identified in published reports as Anthony Alexander -- drove into the parking lot of the in the 81st Precinct police station, at 30 Ralph Ave. in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, in a gray Lexus sport-utility vehicle.
He then slammed his car into the police vehicle upon arriving around 3 p.m. Friday, police said.
Afterward, the man shot himself in the head in an apparent suicide attempt, police said.
The man was last reported in critical condition at Kings County Hospital Center, police said.
The police van was empty and no other injuries were reported.
The New York Daily News reported that Alexander was headed to the station after finding out his girlfriend had pressed domestic abuse charges against him, and the girlfriend had called the police station earlier to say he would be coming.
Sources told the newspaper that Alexander is the brother of a police officer who works from another precinct.
