Man Charged With Robbing Livery Cab Driver In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man has been arrested and charged after a livery cab driver was robbed in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn this weekend.
Police were still searching for a second suspect Sunday evening.
Around 3 a.m. Saturday, the 51-year-old driver picked up the suspects on a street hail at Atlantic Avenue and Saratoga Street in Brooklyn. The suspects asked the driver to stop near East 102nd Street and Farragut Road, and they got out when he stopped, police said.
But while going to pay the driver, one of the suspects pulled a handgun and demanded the driver's money, police said. One suspect fled with the money while the other took the driver's cell phone, dispatch radio and one of the security cameras for the cab, police said.
No injuries were reported.
One of the suspects – Derrick Miller, 22, of Canarsie, Brooklyn, has been arrested and charged with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon after being recognized on a surveillance video, police said.
The second suspect remained on the loose Sunday night, and was described only as a man in his 20s.
