Man Charged With Killing Woman, Baby; Setting Fire To Their Bronx Apartment
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect was charged Saturday with killing a 32-year-old woman and her 1-month-old daughter in their Bronx home, and setting the home on fire afterward.
Eligidio Lind, 21, of the 0-99 block of East 129th Street in Manhattan, was charged with two counts each of murder, manslaughter, and arson, as well as a weapons charge.
At 7:11 p.m. this past Thursday, police responded to a fire in an apartment in the 3400 block of Albany Crescent, in the Jerome Park section of the Bronx.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control within about half an hour.
Meanwhile, Luisa Rodriguez, 32, was found unconscious in the home with stab wounds to her body. Paramedics came to the scene, and pronounced her dead at the scene.
The New York Daily News reported Rodriguez's body was found naked and stuffed under a smoldering mattress in the bathroom. Police told the newspaper she apparently died of a massive head wound.
Rodriguez's 1-month-old daughter, Angela, was then found unconscious in a dry bathtub, the Daily News reported. The newspaper said a firefighter attempted to resuscitate Angela as he rushed her to an ambulance, but police said she was pronounced dead on arrival at Montefiore Hospital.
An autopsy found that Angela died of blunt force trauma, while her mother appeared to have died of a massive head wound, the Daily News reported.
Lind was identified in the report as Rodriguez's boyfriend and Angela's father.
