Man Charged With Killing Mother In Plainfield, N.J.
PLAINFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A Plainfield, N.J., man was arrested early Monday and charged with the death of his mother – in the first homicide in Union County this year.
John Quakenbush, 44, was arrested Monday morning at a motel in Green Brook, N.J., and charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Gail Vandewalle, 69, according to the Union County Prosecutor's office.
Police were dispatched on a well-being check for Vandewalle at her Plainfield home Sunday, as no one had heard from her since Tuesday of last week. Officers searched the home and found her body under a blanket in the living room.
Following an investigation, police learned that Vandewalle had been living with her son, and he was later deemed a suspect her homicide.
Prosecutors did not specify how Vandewalle was killed, nor did they indicate any possible motive.
Quakenbush was being held at the Union County Jail on $1 million bail Monday.
