Man Charged With Backing Limousine Into Brother-In-Law, Killing Him
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man has been charged with backing a limousine into another man who was reportedly his brother-in-law, and killing him, this past weekend in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
Police came to the junction of Kings Highway and Bedford Avenue around 6:50 p.m. Sunday, answering a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Viktor Avadyayev, 53, had been standing behind the white 2007 Chrysler limousine and was struck as the vehicle traveled in reverse, police said. Avadyayev, of the 3600 block of Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the limousine – Yan Krainert, 50, of the 3800 block of Cypress Avenue in Brooklyn – was arrested at the scene. He was later charged with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and driving while intoxicated, police said.
DNAInfo reported Avadyayev was Krainert's brother-in-law. The limousine had been rolling backward and Krainert jumped behind the wheel to try to stop it, but instead of hitting the brake, he hit the gas and slammed in reverse right into Avadyayev, DNAInfo reported.
