Man Charged In Shooting That Wounded Teen, Damaged Officer's Hat In East Harlem

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect has been charged in a shooting that left a 15-year-old boy wounded, and sent a bullet into a police officer's hat, in East Harlem this past weekend.

Around 10:25 p.m. Saturday, police were called to 145th Street and Third Avenue for a quarrel among several people.

As the officers walked up, several gunshots were fired and the officers took cover, police said. One of the bullets hit a uniformed officer's hat, which was being held in the officer's hand at the time, police said.

Meanwhile, the teenager boy suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was taken to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, police said. His condition was reported as stable.

None of the officers fired their weapons, and no officers were injured, police said.

On Monday, police arrested Damar Morales, 20, of the Bronx in connection with the incident.

He was charged with attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon.
