Man Accused Of Being A Stowaway On Plane Out Of JFK Ordered To Remain In Custody
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Nigerian man who allegedly breached airport security at John F. Kennedy International Airport has been ordered to remain in federal custody in Los Angeles.
Investigators say Nigerian-American Olajide Noibi did not have a valid ID and obtained an unused boarding pass issued to another passenger when he somehow got past security and boarded a Virgin American flight to Los Angeles as a stowaway last Friday.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Wilner said Friday he was hesitant to grant bond to Noibi based on the circumstances of the case.
Another hearing will be held at a later date regarding whether the man might be released on bond. His alleged actions have one local lawmaker calling for an investigation into the major security breach.
Long Island Congressman Peter King is chairman of the Homeland Security Committee and says he wants an investigation.
"We're talking about life and death here," said King. "This guy could have been a terrorist. Could have been, God knows what he could have been, so if he's testing the system, he certainly found out a lot here."
The security breach wasn't noticed until the flight was off the ground.
The FBI says Noibi was in Los Angeles for four days and tried to pull the same stunt on a Delta flight to Atlanta.
