83-Year-Old Man Attacked In Front Of Brooklyn Home
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An elderly man is standing tall after being violently attacked in front of his Brooklyn home.
James Haynes, 83, was by his home on Sneidker Avenue in East New York when he was attacked by two teens.
"They kicked me, they punched me, they did all sorts of things to me," Haynes said. "And then I felt a blow to my head -- knocked me down!"
After the assault, Haynes, a veteran firefighter, chased the attackers down the street, but was unable to catch them. He has since filed a police report, but could not give a good description of his attackers, CBS2's Jessica Schneider reported.
The teen thieves only tore into his pants pockets, getting away with a purse full of change that Haynes used for bus fare -- all of Haynes' cash was in his coat pocket, which was left untouched.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
Haynes said he was headed home from church services just before the attack, and that his faith in God spared him from any major injury.
"God was with me," Haynes said.
Haynes said he won't let the incident keep him from being active.
"I fear nothing!" he said.
