Man Arrested In Fatal Greenwich Hit-And-Run Accident
GREENWICH, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Greenwich police have arrested a restaurant worker in the hit-and-run death of a Middlebury woman.
Police arrested Vyacheslav Cherepov of Ridgefield on Monday. Police said an officer spotted Cherepov's car in the same parking lot where Meghan Beebe was killed Saturday morning.
"We were able to develop a suspect vehicle shortly after the investigation had begun zeroing in on a Pontiac product. And really what happened was an astute patrolman located that Pontiac parked in the same lot where the accident took place," Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray told WCBS 880.
Cherepov has been charged with evading. Bond was set at $500,000.
Police say Cherepov stopped briefly after hitting her, then fled, dragging her under the car.
Beebe was a 2010 graduate of the Westover School in Middlebury and studied sociology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Her father, Richard Beebe, told the Republican American newspaper he can understand the accident occurred, but cannot forgive the driver who left the scene.
Cherepov is due in Stamford Superior Court Jan. 6. It wasn't known Monday if he has a lawyer.
