Man Arrested, Charged Shortly After Unsuccessful L.I. Bank Robbery
PORT JEFFERSON STATION, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Suffolk County arrested a man Tuesday, shortly after he allegedly tried to rob a bank, but walked away with nothing.
Eric Henn, 31, of Rocky Point, was charged with third-degree robbery in connection with the incident at the HSBC bank branch in Port Jefferson Station, Suffolk County police said.
The robber walked into the bank at 574 Jefferson Plaza around 2:15 a.m., and handed a teller a threatening note demanding cash, police said. The teller did not obey, and Henn ran off on foot in a westerly direction, police said.
After a review of surveillance footage, detectives from the Suffolk County police Pattern Crime Unit canvassed the area, and found Henn about an hour and 35 minutes later in a shopping center at 4810 Nesconset Highway in Port Jefferson, police said.
Henn was arrested on the spot.
He was set to appear for an arraignment Wednesday in Suffolk County First District Court in Central Islip, police said.
