Man Accused Of Attacking Three Women In One Day

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 55-year-old man was arrested following three assaults on women in Harlem Wednesday night.

Around 8:30 p.m. police received a call from a woman on West 111 Street who said she had just been assaulted by a man in red pants, a black jacket and had on a gold chain.

As police canvassed the area for the suspect, they encountered a man fitting the description. The victim was then brought to the scene and positively identified her attacker, police said.

As the officers placed the man under arrest, another 911 call was received for a robbery in the lobby of an apartment building on West 111 Street. The 59-year-old female victim said a man fitting the same description had assaulted her and stole her purse.

Police said after bringing the suspect back to the precinct for processing, they were told by fellow officers of another attack at around 7:45 p.m. by a man fitting the same description.

According to police, Edward Major was identified by all three victims. One of the assaults was also caught on surveillance video.

One of the victims was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with a broken nose, a sprained elbow and bruising on her face. The two other victims refused medical attention, police said.

Between the three cases, Major is charged with felony assault, misdemeanor assault and two counts of robbery.
