Man, 79, Shot And Killed In Bushwick
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 79-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.
At 2:24 a.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to 1091 Gates Ave. in Brooklyn, where they found James Jackson, 79, lying unconscious with a gunshot wound to the neck.
Paramedics took Jackson to Woodhull Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Police were at the scene for several hours on Sunday after receiving a call from a neighbor who identified herself as Joyce. Joyce called 911 for Jackson's wife who is blind.
"She said, 'Joyce could you come down here, I can't wake up Tyrone', he was laying in the couch in a puddle of blood," Joyce explained to CBS 2's Steve Langford.
Jackson's wife told Joyce that she did not hear anything, and neighbors told CBS that they didn't notice any signs of a break in.
"She wears a hearing aid, and when she goes to bed she don't have her hearing aid on," Joyce said.
Neighbors were visibly shaken by the shooting and one man said he thought that something was wrong when he went looking for Jackson around midnight, but didn't find him at home.
"I went last night to get a cigarette from him so I knocked on the door, but I didn't get no answer," said Eric Turner.
Jackson's wife expressed despair at the thought of life without her husband.
"What am I going to do now without him," she said, through a neighbor.
Police did not have any information about a possible shooter or a motive for the shooting as of early Sunday afternoon.
No arrests had been made in the case Sunday afternoon, and the investigation continued.
