Mamaroneck parents have to raise $30,000 by August 1 to save some freshman sports teams that were cut in the 2011-2012 school budget.
"We didn't really know about it until after the budget passed, which was in the middle of May, and they gave us til August 1 to get it done," says mom Diane Muratore.
She says they've already raised about $22,000 and if they just had a little more time, they could meet their goal.
"Everyday, there's been money coming in," she says. "We want to be able to reach our community and if many people go away during the summer, you know, we don't want to miss anybody who might be interested in partaking."
She says kids need this outlet.
"We need to keep the kids busy," she says. "They need to be active. It's good for their morale, their self confidence."
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the district says they haven't made a decision yet.
