'Crucible' Producers Save Mamaroneck Students' Broadway Trip
MAMARONECK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The producers of "The Crucible" on Broadway are making some local high school kids very happy.
Mamaroneck High School English teacher Evan Madin bought tickets through the non-profit Healing Arts Initiative for his students to see the Broadway production of Arthur Miller's "The Crucible."
But after the organization filed for bankruptcy, there were no tickets for Madin and his students.
"I get an email that says HAI has officially shut down, we are sorry for any inconvenience," Madin told Adams. "The company had gone bankrupt that morning, there was new leadership and all the staff was fired."
"So now I'm very upset because my students' money is theoretically gone and they are expecting to go to a show," Madin said.
WCBS 880 contacted the producers of the show and they made available 80 free tickets for Wednesday's matinee performance.
"I think we're kind of beside ourselves and thrilled that this worked out," Madin said. "There's no limit to people's generosity. I can't thank them enough for it and I think it will be important that the students get the opportunity to thank them, too."
