Macy's Fireworks Preparations Underway On Staten Island
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - The fireworks for this year's Macy's 4th of July show are being loaded onto six barges on Staten Island.

The Macy's folks say this year's show is going to be a blast.
"[A] 25-minute show. There's nothing like that. We've got 40,000 shells," says executive producer Amy Kule.

She says this year, there are more colors and shapes.
"We've got 17 colors that are going to reveal themselves in this year's fireworks and nearly 50 shapes," she says.
There are also more effects.
"There are everything from huge booms to slow cascading colors," she says.
Operations manager Christopher Sousa says this year's show is bigger and better than ever.
"The scale of the show is just so much more volume, so more in the sky," he says.
This year. the barges will be lined up on the Hudson River between 20th and 55th streets.
The West Side Highway will be closed up to 79th Street from 4 p.m. until 1 a.m. for spectators.
This is the largest fireworks show in the country.
