Luna Park To Celebrate 1 Millionth Ride
CONEY ISLAND (1010 WINS) -- Less than three months after opening its gate, Luna Park is getting ready to celebrate a major milestone.
The amusement park will celebrate its one millionth ride Friday and to mark the occasion the seaside destination will hold the First Annual Lunatic Day.
There will be plenty of entertainment and special contest, plus, anyone who comes wearing orange or Luna Park attire will get one free unlimited-ride wristband with each wristband they buy.
Luna Park, which operated in Coney Island from 1903 to 1944, was reincarnated with 19 state-of-the-art rides and opened to the public Memorial Day weekend.
A couple of rides that debuted include Air Race, which simulates the experience of a fighter pilot, and Surfs Up -- which lets you ride a 90-foot wave without getting wet. Also, a new version of the Tickler roller coaster pays homage to the park's history.
Designer Alberto Zamperla crafted Luna Park to reflect the spirit and personality of Coney Island as it is today while paying respect to its history and original look.
Admission to the park is free, so is you prefer games to rides or just want to take a stroll on the Boardwalk you won't have to pay to get in. Each ride costs between $3 and $5, with the options for a $30 four-hour pass that gets you unlimited access.
Also, if you want to experience a little "lunacy" you can stop by the sideshow and check out the "Human Lizard" along with other interesting characters.
