Looming Snowstorm Pushes Up Holiday Shopping Deadlines
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A snowstorm is on its way and holiday shopping deadlines have been moved up.
Shoppers flooded malls and came across great deals on Friday night, CBS 2's Christine Sloan reported.
The spirit of the season was everywhere at the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers, where there was a sense of urgency among many who wanted to get their holiday shopping done before Saturday's storm.
Chilly temperatures were not enough to deter shoppers from cramming the outdoor mall and in an attempt to wrap up their shopping before next weekend.
"We better get all the shopping done because we're going to end up in the house next week. I don't want to deal with crowds later on," Francis Lydon said.
A mall spokesperson said that more people have been shopping and taking advantage of deals as high as 50 percent off.
"We have a lot of fashion stores like H&M and Forever 21," Liz Pollack said.
For some families, it was a mission to see Santa.
"I better come here before Santa goes back to the North Pole," Lisa Zonetti said.
Despite the storm the mall was expected to remain open through the weekend with extended hours on Saturday and Sunday.
