But company documents reviewed by the Wall Street Journal say lean, mean, and streamlined is giving way to a more thoughtful and individual approach.
Starbucks has told baristas to focus on no more than two drinks at a time, and at that, only starting the second when finishing the first, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Brewing is the question among customers - will this mean a longer wait for the beloved beverage?
"I haven't noticed anything changing individually," one man told WCBS 880 reporter Paul Murnane. "Seems pretty much the same."
Another man was worried, saying, "It's gonna slow the line down. This is gonna slow the line down, absolutely."
At least two locations in the area have adopted this new approach, according to workers.
One said that training is a constant.
