Long Island Woman Accused Of DWI Following Fatal Crash
BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Mastic, Long Island woman involved in a three-car crash in Brookhaven that took the life of a man has been charged with driving while intoxicated.
According to Suffolk County Police, a 1997 Suburban driven by Orlando Heinecker was headed east on Montauk Highway when he lost control of the SUV and struck two vehicles heading westbound -- a 2007 Jeep driven by Kimberly Michiels and a 2014 Ford Focus driven by Sarah Skidmore -- just before 1:20 a.m. Sunday.
The 35-year-old Heinecker, of Bellport, was ejected from the Suburban and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Michiels, 35, was treated for minor injuries at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue and charged with driving while intoxicated. She was expected to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
A passenger in Michiels' Jeep, 42-year-old Andrea Smith, and Skidmore were both treated at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center and released.
Police said all three vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
