Long Island To Washington Flights To Resume Sunday
ISLIP, NY (CBSNewYork) - More than a decade after 9/11 security fears forced the federal government to discontinue direct flights from Long Island's MacArthur Airport to Washington, DC, the service is being restored.

It officially launches this Sunday, with twice-daily nonstop flights on US Airways.
Sen. Charles Schumer and the Long Island Congressional delegation will be on hand for the maiden voyage to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
Schumer said the resumption of service sends a message that, "MacArthur is where it's at."
There has a been a recent push for expansion at MacArthur Airport. In May 2011, a new control tower was dedicated.
