Long Island Programmer Accused Of Hacking Former Employer
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A Long Island programmer and systems manager is charged with hacking into his former employer's computer system and causing more than $90,000 in damage.
Federal prosecutors say Michael Meneses was upset that he'd been passed over for a promotion. They say the alleged activity occurred after he quit in December 2011.
U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch says the defendant engaged in a ``campaign of cyber vandalism and high-tech revenge.''
Long Island Programmer Accused Of Hacking Former Employer
The company is not named. Court papers say it manufactures high voltage power supply materials.
Meneses is free on $50,000 bond following his court appearance Thursday.
His attorney, federal public defender Tracey Gaffey, declined to comment.
Authorities say FBI agents traced some of the alleged hacking to a North Carolina motel where Meneses was staying.
Meneses faces prison time and $250,000 in fines.
