Long Island Police Chase Ends Deadly
WYANDANCH, N.Y. (CBS 2) – Two men who tried to flee from a traffic stop died after their car crashed yesterday on Long Island.
Police tried to pull over the driver of a 2003 Toyota Camry for a traffic violation on Saturday morning near Irving Avenue and Jackson Street in Wyandanch.
The driver refused to pull over and sped off. He eventually lost control in West Babylon where he careened into a shed, a tree and a parked car before the car flipped over. Investigators said drugs may have been a factor in the pursuit.
"Our belief and it's still under investigation is that they deposited drugs outside the window of the car while the car was moving," Suffolk County Police Det. Lt. Robert Edwards said.
The driver died of his injuries at a nearby hospital, and his passenger died at the scene.
