7 Of 8 New York Tourism Signs Taken Down On East End Of Long Island

MONTAUK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Seven New York tourism signs have come down on the East End of Long Island, following complaints from area residents.

CBS2's Jennifer McLogan reported last week on eight signs, about 20 feet tall, that were erected in Montauk at the end of June.

As of Monday, all but one of the signs had been taken down.

The last remaining sign will be replaced with a smaller version.

But sign boards read, "Welcome to New York" and advertises ILoveNY.com and the "I Love NY" app.

Many on the East End of Long Island called the billboards "massive," and too out of place in their quaint communities. They said such signs were better suited for the Long Island Expressway.
