Long Island Man Sentenced 25 Years To Life In Girlfriend's Slaying
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Long Island man has been sentenced to a maximum of 25 years to life in prison for setting up his girlfriend to be killed by his friend.
Joseph DeFelice, of North Amityville, was sentenced Thursday after being convicted of murder, Newsday reported.
"You may not have pulled the trigger, but you made her death a certainty," Judge John Toomey Jr. told DeFelice in Suffolk District Court, according to the newspaper.
Mandy Jo Jenkins was fatally shot as she slept on Aug. 23, 2010.
Prosecutors say the 32-year-old woman was killed by David Newbeck after DeFelice gave him a key to the warehouse apartment where they lived. They say Newbeck wanted her dead because she had brought identity-theft charges against his girlfriend.
Newbeck is set to be tried next year. Information on his lawyer was not immediately available.
