Long Island Man Gets 3 Years In Prison For Dog Fighting After Fire That Killed 13 Pit Bulls
MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Long Island man has been sentenced to up to three years in prison over the deaths of 13 pit bulls that prosecutors said were bred and trained for fighting.
Anthony Reddick was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty in August to nearly two dozen counts of felony and misdemeanor animal fighting charges.
The 53-year-old was a tenant in a Freeport home on Hillside Avenue where investigators discovered dogs and dogfighting apparatus following a garage fire on Feb. 28.
The dogs that burned to death ranged in age from about 2 1/2 months to 5 years old, officials said. Three other pit bulls were found alive.
Prosecutors said authorities found syringes, medications and supplements for dogs, dog treadmills and a female dog restraint for breeding inside the home.
As part of his sentence, Reddick is not allowed to own any animals for 15 years.
