Long Island Man Charged With Assault, Extortion In Alleged Burglary
BOHEMIA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Long Island man burglarized a trailer park home while assaulting the resident and extorting money from the victim's father, police said.
The 27-year-old suspect was arrested Saturday in front of his home in the Suffolk County hamlet of Brentwood, just hours after police say he entered the trailer home in Bohemia, authorities said.
The alleged burglar used a mallet to strike a man who was asleep there, then phoned the man's father to demand cash while threatening to further harm him, according to officials.
The father brought the money to the man's home, where he was arrested just after midnight Saturday.
The son was hospitalized.
