Long Island Man Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run
BRENTWOOD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Long Island driver is under arrest after police said he hit and killed a pedestrian and drove off.
Fredy Pavon, 47, of Brentwood, was awaiting arraignment Sunday after being arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of a fatal crash. No telephone number for him could be found, and it's not immediately clear whether he has a lawyer.
Suffolk County police say the victim Santos Amaya, 31, of Central Islip, was walking across Islip Avenue in Brentwood around 10 p.m. Saturday when a car ran him down and then took off.
Amaya was pronounced dead at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
Meanwhile, police found the damaged 2007 Toyota Corolla and arrested the driver a few hours later.
Suffolk County police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call their Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
