Long Island MacArthur Aiport 5K Run For Veterans Is One Month Away
RONKONKOMA, NY (WCBS 880) - Hundreds are expected to hit the runway next month for the Long Island MacArthur Aiport 5K Run For Veterans.

Arthur Turner, whose son just returned from serving in Afghanistan, founded the race with two of his co-workers at the airport.
"The bottom line is to raise as much money for the veterans as we can and, of course, to bring out as much attention to the veterans who come back from the conflicts who come back suffering from the effects of combat," Turner told WCBS 880 reporter Sophia Hall.

Airport commissioner Teresa Rizutto says that last year they raised nearly $50,000 for the Long Island 9-1-1 Veterans charity and they hope to do even more this year.
"This year it's going to be just as spectacular," she said.
Turner said of last year's inaugural race, "We would up with almost 1,200 runners and walkers."
