L.I. Homeless Man Accused Of Impersonating Cop
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Suffolk County police arrested a homeless man for impersonating a police officer Friday night.
Authorities charged Derek Diskin, 41, after an incident in which they found him creating a disturbance on Montauk Highway in Mastic.
Diskin approached the vehicle of detectives investigating a separate incident and began to "act in a threatening manner," police said.
Diskin then identified himself as a cop and even flashed a gold badge. Police said the man also refused to cooperate with police and resisted arrest when detectives tried to take him into custody.
Diskin was charged with criminal impersonation, disorderly conduct and other charges. He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
Anyone who thinks they may have encountered Diskin impersonating a police officer is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
