Long Island Elementary School Celebrates 90th Birthday
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Northern Parkway School's 90th birthday Thursday was a celebration for the ages.
Past and present students turned out for the festivities at the Uniondale, Long Island, elementary school, CBS 2's Weijia Jiang reported.
"It was built in 1923, and we're celebrating because it's still running," fifth-grader Marina Jean-Baptiste said.
At one point, students serenaded alumni
Michael Lee, who attended Northern Parkway in the 1970s, said the school left a major impression on his life.
"This is kindergarten through sixth grade, so it's a good portion of my life," he said. "And it's very vivid still, the memories."
Northern Parkway was built in 1923 for $150,000. It is one of the oldest buildings on Long Island.
Lynne Schmidt-Molloy and her daughter, Carolyn Molloy-Reggi, were both students at the school. Lynne started there in 1949; Carolyn in 1970.
"That's really cool that I went to the same school that she went to," Carolyn said.
"All these wonderful memories," her mother added.
