Long Island Elementary School Celebrates 90th Birthday
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Students are celebrating a very special birthday at one Long Island elementary school.
Children at Northern Parkway School in Uniondale kicked off the school's 90th birthday celebration by serenading former students.
On the guest list were several alumni who were students at the school decades ago, including Lynn Schmidt-Molloy who attended the school from kindergarten through sixth grade in the 1940s.
"All these wonderful memories," said Schmidt-Molloy, whose daughter was a student at the school 20 years later.
Alumnus Jim Melle met his best friend at the school 35 years ago when they were in the second grade.
"Still friends to this day," Melle said.
The school was built in 1923 for $150,000.
It's one of the oldest buildings on Long Island.
