Long Island Community Gathers To Honor Fallen Marine
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island community came together to honor a fallen Marine on Saturday.
Lance Corporal Gregory Buckley was killed in 2012 in Afghanistan by a gunman posing as a police officer.
On Saturday, the town of Hempstead officially renamed a street for Buckley near Oceanside Park. it was the same street where Buckley grew up and played basketball with his dad.
"I just want to thank everyone here for my son and I know he's watching and I', begging him to let your dad get one ball in today when I shoot," his father said.
Buckley joined the Marine Corps when he was 17-years-old. He was killed just days before he was scheduled to return home.
