Police: Teen Steals Money From Woman During Cellphone Sale On Long Island
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A teenager is under arrest after stealing $200 from a woman who showed up to buy a cellphone he had advertised online, police said.
When the 51-year-old woman met the suspect in Uniondale on Saturday to purchase the phone, police said he shoved her and fled with her money and the phone.
Later in the day, the woman saw the same phone for sale online. She arranged to meet the seller in Hempstead to buy the phone and notified police, authorities said.
When police identified themselves, the suspect fled but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.
Jahmani Harleston, 17, of Uniondale, has been charged in the case with grand larceny and resisting arrest.
