LISTEN: WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reports
Police say the child's grandmother put him in the cab in Freeport and asked the cabbie to take him to his Roosevelt home.
Along the way, police say, cabbie Roy Sutherland asked the boy about paying. When the child did not respond, Sutherland allegedly left him standing on a street corner in Freeport and drove off.
Sutherland was arrested two hours later and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon.
The Uniondale resident is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 25.
It was not immediately known if he had retained a lawyer.
