Long Beach Boardwalk Reconstruction To Begin Next Week
LONG BEACH, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - Preliminary construction of Long Beach's new $44.2 million boardwalk is set to begin next week, but it won't be complete for the summer.
"We're hopeful to have some sections open this summer, but at this point, we can't give you an sort of definitive answer," said city spokesman Gordon Keppler.
Grace Industries of Plainview has the contract to rebuild the 2.2-mile boardwalk, which was wrecked by superstorm Sandy, and they have seven months to finish it.

Full use is not likely to be available until the fall.
For residents like Paul Wilcox, that's too bad.
"You know, you walk the boardwalk. You ride bikes on the boardwalk. You take your kids on the boardwalk. If you got nothing to do, alright, let's go to the boardwalk," he told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.
