Local Leaders Want Macy's Fireworks Display To Return To East River
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Though the Fourth of July is still months away, some elected officials are turning their focus on the fireworks celebrations.
Some Manhattan and Brooklyn lawmakers held a rally at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Monday calling for the Macy's fireworks spectacular to return to the East River from the Hudson River.

The show was moved in 2009 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's journey up the river.
Local lawmakers, including Sen. Daniel Squadron and Council Member Stephen Levin, said less people can enjoy the display when it's held on the Hudson River.
"Where they are now New Jersey gets to enjoy them, but Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx are left out of the party," Squadron said.

Macy's said it has no plans to move the fireworks display this year.
"While the show will be on the Hudson River this year, Macy's Fireworks will continue to take place in and around all of New York City's waterways, and will not be a permanent fixture in any one location," Macy's spokesperson Orland Veras said, adding that limiting the show to any one area would hinder the "creative freedom."
