Local Lawmakers Push For 9/11 Health Guidelines

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - Some local lawmakers are calling for new guidelines to track 9/11 health-related illnesses.

WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reports if protocols can be set for the autopsies of 9/11 responders, perhaps valuable information can be learned about what killed them. That's the goal of a requst from some local members of Congress.

"It's important for us to get the possible information that we can to guide the rest of our treatment," said Michael Crane, the Medical Director of the World Trade Center Program at Mount Sinai.

Crane says what makes these cases so difficult is the witch's brew of chemicals released at Ground Zero was unique.

It's enormously complicated trying to figure out what has happened to people as a result of these exposures.
