Suspect Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Brooklyn Livery Cab Driver
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting of a livery cab driver who was found dead in the front seat of a car in Brooklyn.
Tyrell Gardenhire, 24, was arrested Friday and charged with murder, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a loaded firearm in connection with Monday's fatal shooting of 35-year-old Naji Fawaz, police said.
Officers found Fawaz unconscious and unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to the neck and torso. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"It looks like he's the victim of a robbery," NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said earlier this week. "There is no money on him at this time. We don't have shell cases in the car, but he is hit several times in the body."
Police are still seeking a second suspect in the case.
Fawaz was a father of two young children and a native of Yemen.
