Livery Cab Driver Plowed Into 3 Parked Cars After Shooting
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A livery cab driver was shot and killed in Brooklyn early Monday, and police said he was likely targeted.
As 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported, police responded at 12:47 a.m. to Decatur Street and Irving Avenue, in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. Livery cab driver Carlos Núñez, 37, of Valley Stream, had been shot in the face, and plowed into five parked cars as he barreled down Decatur in his 2004 Toyota Siena.

Núñez was pronounced dead shortly afterward at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center.
Núñez was working when he was shot, but he was in his personal car and may have been picking up one more fare for the night.
Fernando Mateo of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers said livery cab drivers are known to use their private cars sometimes. But he said they should not be doing so, given that there are no security cameras.
"You don't have this technology in your private car, so we don't advise that anyone do this," Mateo said, "and if they think they can get away with it, they see what could happen."
Police said Núñez might have been targeted. Law enforcement sources said a caller requested a pickup from Núñez specifically before he was shot.
Núñez also had been arrested recently on drug and assault charges, and had told people close to him that he owed money, police said.
Mateo said regardless of the livery cab driver's past, Núñez was murdered on the job, and he hoped a $2,000 reward would yield information that cameras cannot.
