New York City Comptroller John Liu: NYC Schools Need More Guidance Counselors
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The city's fiscal watchdog wants the Department of Education to spend more money on guidance counselors.
In a report released Thursday, New York City comptroller John Liu said adding more than 1,600 guidance counselors would help more kids get into college.

"Most high school students feel like they don't have enough time with their guidance counselors and without these counselors, it is very difficult for a student to get through the onerous process of all the applications and the preparations needed to get into college and then to succeed in college," Liu told 1010 WINS.
The report proposes the DOE invest nearly $176 million annually in order to more than double the number of school counselors -- reducing the counselor-to-student ratio to 100:1.
Education officials dispute the numbers in Liu's report saying it's based on data from 2008.
