LIU Gets 16th Seed, Set To Face Michigan St.
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (AP) — Long Island, which won the Northeast Conference tournament for the second time in as many years, was given the No. 16 seed in the West Region of the NCAA tournament on Sunday, and will play Michigan State in the second round.
The Blackbirds (25-8, 16-2), who also won the NEC's regular-season title, defeated Robert Morris, 90-73, on Wednesday to advance to the tournament. They will meet the Spartans (26-7, 13-5 Big Ten) in Columbus, Ohio.
LIU won 11 of its last 12 games, and defeated Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac and the Colonials to win the league tournament.
The Blackbirds will face a team in Michigan State that started the season unranked, but will finish in the NCAA tournament for the 15th straight year.
