LISTEN: Don Mattingly Talks Marlins On WFAN
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Donnie Baseball joined Mike Francesa on Tuesday to talk about his new gig as manager of the Miami Marlins, who are in town to face the New York Mets.
"If we can stay healthy, which is what we have to do as the Marlins," said Don Mattingly, who parted ways last year with the Dodgers after five seasons. "We're not going to be filled with depth and not be able to just go out and replace guys. We're going to need a little bit of luck in the health department. If we can get that, then we feel like we're going to be right there."
Of course, one of the topics that came up was Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton, who hit 27 home runs last season depsite missing more than half the year with a broken left hand.
"This guy, it's through the roof," Mattingly said of Stanton's talent. "And he's 26, too. This is not a guy on the way out. This guy's still getting better, and he's another good kid that works extremely hard."
