LIRR Ronkonkoma Service Restored After Train Strikes Man On Tracks

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) --  Long Island Rail Road has restored service in both directions on the Ronkonkoma branch.

Full service came back at 8:42 a.m. Friday, but the railroad said it is continuing to experience systemwide delays.

Service had been suspended between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a New York-bound train.

The incident occurred at a grade-level crossing on the Brentwood-North Bay Shore border east of Deer Park around 5:45 a.m. Friday, the agency said.

The accident involved the 5:29 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma, due in Penn Station at 6:38 a.m.

The LIRR says it's not clear if the victim was trying to cross the tracks or if the gates were functioning properly. The accident remains under investigation.
