LIRR Service On Ronkonkoma Branch Restored After Vehicle Crash Forces Suspension
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Service was suspended for several hours Tuesday morning on the Long Island Rail Road's Ronkonkoma branch after a woman crashed her car onto the tracks.
Police say a 33-year-old, who was driving without a licence, crashed through a chain-link fence and onto the tracks in Wyandanch. The wreck caused damage to about 300 feet of the third rail which supplies power to the trains.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority suspended service for about three hours between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale in both directions while crews worked to fix the rail and remove the car from the tracks.
Service was restored around 9:15 a.m.
No word if anyone was injured. The woman was issued a summons for driving without a license.
